Fat Boy
On Monday October 9th, 2006 we said good-bye to one of the members of our “little” family, Fat Boy, our funny little cubby cat. He died from a condition I’d never heard of before called feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Sunday he seemed a little down by Monday he could barely walk. Fat Boy had gotten so weak in those 24 hours that when we decided to put him to rest they didn’t even get a chance to administer the usual drugs. All it took was a sedative and he quickly and comfortably passed away.
I never thought I’d be so upset over losing a pet and, truth be told, if we had lost one of the other cats I don’t think I would have been so saddened. It’s not that I love the other two any less it’s just that Fat Boy was the one who always brought laughter into our home each and every day. From the goofy zoro pattern of his face to his short, stubby front legs Fat Boy was quite the character. Just ask anyone who’s ever heard his weird bird like chirps or the weird way he’d lift his butt and start licking you if you’d spank him just above the tail. Or the way he’d steal lettuce from your plate and come back and ask for more. I still don’t understand why he’d jump into my lap and start to meow like crazy whenever either my Mom or Michele called and only those two people. It was as though he thought the phone call was for him. He’d also poke us in the leg and try to grab our attention whenever we were depressed or stressed out, just looking down at him and hearing his chirp would make you smile.
Contained within this gallery are all the photos we took of Fat boy during his 7 years with us.
Rest in piece Fat Boy, we miss you.

This photo was taken a few months after I picked him up at the SPC in Largo. I was dropping off a large cat that was tearing up my other cat buddy. I was unsuccessfully trying to find another kitten when as I pulled up to the SPC someone else pulled up in another car and ask me if I'd like a kitten. I thought it had to be a joke because it just too convenient but there he was, the ugliest little kitten I’d ever seen. And he couldn't have been a better find.
